iPhone Wallpapers - Choosing the Perfect Wallpaper and Learn How to Transfer Them Into Your iPhone

Are you tired of looking at the same old wallpaper on your Apple iPhone? Then get out of your doldrums, and spice things up a bit by changing your wallpaper! It's easy and quick, and there's no tricks to it. A click here and a tap there, and you've got new wallpaper!

You can turn almost any picture you see on the Web into your next Apple wallpaper. When you see a picture you like, simply right click on it and then choose "SAVE PICTURE AS" in the menu that comes up. Choose a folder to put it in, like My Pictures or whatever folder you want, give the pic a title, and click SAVE. You can collect a selection of pictures that you may want to use for your wallpaper. This is your first step - getting the pictures to use onto your computer.

In your search, you will find that some websites do not allow you to just take their photos off their site for your own use. In their webpage coding, they have disabled right-clicking on their page. So if you encounter this restriction, you cannot use that picture for your wall paper. Out of a billion sites or so that are on the Web, you are sure to find some you like for your Apple wallpapers on the websites that do allow right-clicking.

Another way to collect pictures to use for your wallpapers is to do a search for the sites which provide downloads of photos to use as Apple iPhone wallpapers. Some of these are free, and some cost you some money.

Now that you have some photos to use for your wallpapers, the next step is to connect your iPhone to your computer. Just plug in your iPhone's USB cable. This will launch iTunes. Click the PHOTOS tab.

Then click SYNC PHOTOS FROM. Browse to your photos folder and select the ones you would like to copy to your iPhone. Then click SYNC. Your photos are now on your iPhone.

Now tap the PHOTOS icon on your iPhone and you will see all your new photos.

Go to your SETTINGS menu. Tap on the WALLPAPER icon. Again, you will see all your photos displayed. Choose a photo that you want to use for your Apple wallpaper. Tap OPTIONS. Tap USE AS WALLPAPER.

Now you can drag your photo around on your screen, or zoom in or out to position it however you like. To zoom in, just tap the photo with two quick taps. When it zooms in, do the same and it will zoom back out again. When you are happy with how it looks, then tap SET WALLPAPER.

That's it! You now have a new wallpaper on your Apple iPhone.

Creating a Black and White Photograph From a Color Negative

File-->Desaturate. Done.

Like most everything in Photoshop, there are so many different ways to create a black and white image from a color negative. And most of them work pretty well.

This article is going to cover the primary ways that I work to create these black and white tonal relationships. These techniques can be more time consuming, take more practice, and will create larger files than many of the other techniques, but will give us much more control.

Now creating a black and white image in Photoshop is a bit like putting together a puzzle with a 100 different solutions. As you begin to create more and more black and white images you will start to get a better feel for which of these pieces/techniques to use and how to use them.

But for now the first step for us is to figure out where to get these pieces.

Step 1: Finding the Puzzle Pieces (through channels) Always shoot in color. If we capture an image in black and white then we are stuck with whatever tonal relationships were originally captured and so we won't have any flexibility in changing them. We also don't want to just remove all the color from the image. This is what File-->Desaturate does.

Instead, we want to use the existing color information to create new tonal relationships within the image that are to our liking. Here is where channels come in.

Each RGB file uses a separate grayscale Red, Green and Blue channel to map out the colors in an image. These channels are located under the channel tab in the layers palette. We want to click on each of these layers and copy and paste the information above the color image. Make sure to label them since it is easy to forget which one is which.

There is also a fourth channel that can be used, called Lightness in LAB mode. To access this channel select Image-->Mode-->Lab Color. Flatten the image and click the channel tab under the layers palette. Copy the Lightness channel, go back in history to before you converted the image into LAB and paste it into your file.

You will not usually need to copy all of these channels each time you make a black and white. Many times you will like only the information from one or two channels. However, it helps to copy all of the channels over the first few times you try this technique.

Step 2: Using Layer Masks Once we have these layers copied we want to choose the channel that has the best representation of what we want and move it to the bottom of the stack. We then want to add a black layer mask to each layer above it and start painting in the areas of the other channels that we want to show.

Often you'll want to show a mix of different layers instead of just strictly information from a single channel. In this case you will want to paint with different levels of grey on the mask depending on how much of the layer you want to show through. Layer masks themselves are a huge subject that will have to be covered separately.

By using all of these layers of information with layer masks and different opacity brushes you not only have an extreme latitude to work with your images, but you also have the flexibility to come back and alter or edit your creation.

In the case of this image, I decided that I liked the moodiness in the sky of the blue channel the most and so I brought it to the bottom of the stack. I added the green channel above at 20% to add a little detail and lightness to the grey values and masked off the area around the sun to not blow out any more of the highlights.

I then wanted some lighter values on the left side of the image everywhere except the main building and so I painted in some of the red channel on the layer mask.

Step 3: Local Adjustments: Once you have the basis for the tonal look of the image then you want to get into working with lightening/darkening, dodging/burning or tweaking the contrast etc. of the image. It is important to get the foundation for the image finishes first however.

You can see above that I added a few localized curves to the image. I did not use these to change the image that much, since the layer channels had already helped me to get pretty close to where I wanted the final image to be.

Channel Mixer: There is also the channel mixer, which allows you to mix the information from each layer in different percentages. I use this technique a decent amount.

Under the layer adjustments palette select Channel Mixer. Click the monochrome button and then play around with the percentages of each different color in ways that add up to 100%. If you go above 100% you will often begin to clip your whites, so be careful if you do this.

I believe that this technique is similar to copying each of the red, green and blue channels into your document and mixed them together with different opacities, but without the flexibility of being able to use layer masks. You can create your entire black and white photo using the channel mixer, or you can copy the effect and use it as a single piece to the puzzle.

The Most Important Step: Rest your Eyes and Come Back Later Some images will be easy. But this stuff can sometimes drive you crazy. The constant back and forth and staring and tweaking will often pound on your eyes and put you in 'the fog'. If you feel like this there's no point in going on. You'll most likely just hurt your image and any good progress that you've made already.

Go outside, look around at colorful things, take a 15 minute nap, go to sleep for the night and come back the next day or days later. You need to see the image from a fresh viewpoint that you can only see with some time away. There have been so many times where I have woken up the next day and looked at a black and white that I had spent so many grueling hours on and was shocked to see that it looked terrible!

And then I sat down and whipped up the final image in no time at all.

But, for those who have more time than money, or for those who will want to create many information products (and doesn't want to pay multiple fees to designers), there is a simple & FREE alternative: GIMP

GIMP is a 100% FREE software, and you can find the download link by searching at Google or Yahoo for "GIMP download"...You'll find many different web sites offering it for free.

GIMP has a very similar user interface as the Adobe PhotoShop software (which costs around 0), and was really the only way to make professional looking eBook covers, until the GIMP software was available.

Now, don't get me wrong, I still prefer Photoshop, as it's the program I've always used and am familiar with. Plus, I've already paid for it, so I might as well use it. But, for those who have a limited budget, you can start producing web graphics for just about any purpose: eBooks, banners, Headers, etc...for FREE with the GIMP software.

There is something to be said about making your own graphics:

1) You have FULL control of the outcome: You know how you want your product to be represented, so doing it yourself puts you in complete control of every aspect of your products look, feel, and design.

2) The cost savings will add up VERY quickly: You can change your products graphics at any time, with NO additional fees that you would have to pay a designer. This alone is well worth the time involved with learning a new piece of software.

After downloading and Installing the GIMP software...Below, are the basic steps to making your own eBook cover:

STEP #1
- From the top Menu Bar...click: File, New.
- Width = 500, Height = 750
- Click "OK"

STEP #2
- From the top Menu Bar...click: Layer, New Layer.
- Layer Name = Front
- Width = 250, Height = 350
- Set "Layer Fill Type" = Foreground Color
- Click "OK"
Change color of layer to a "blue"...

STEP #3
- From the top Menu Bar...click: Layer, New Layer.
- Layer Name = Top
- Width = 250, Height = 50
- Set "Layer Fill Type" = Foreground Color
- Click "OK"
- Change color to a Light Gray

STEP #4
- From the top Menu Bar...click: Layer, New Layer.
- Layer Name = Side
- Width = 375, Height = 50
- Set "Layer Fill Type" = Foreground Color
- Click "OK"
Change color to a Yellow

Move the layers around so you can see all Three of them.

STEP #5
- Click "front" layer in Layers box
- Click "text tool"
- Make text box on front layer image
- Type in text, then click close
- Adjust text as needed (size, font, etc).

STEP #6
- Click "side" layer in Layers box
- Click "text tool"
- Make Text box on side layer image
- Type in text, then click close
- Adjust text as needed

STEP #7
- In Layers Box, you can "merge down" by RIGHT clicking the text layers, and then click the "merge down" option. Make sure text is directly above the layer you want to merge with.

STEP #8
- Flip side layer around...by:
- Click on Side layer in Layers box
- Click Layer from top menu bar
- Click Transform Layer
- Click Rotate 90' Clockwise

STEP #9
- Save File...by:
- Click on File from top menu bar
- Click Save
- Name file...be sure to label with the.xcf extension
- Save in Folder where you'd like it to be saved on YOUR computer

STEP #10
- Add Finished layer
- Click Layer from top menu bar
- Click New Layer
- Name "Finished"
- Width = 250
- Height = 375
- Layer Fill Type = white
- Click OK

STEP #11
- From Top menu bar, click Filters
- Click Map
- Click Map Object
- On new window...change "Plane" to "Box"
- Click on Show Preview Wireframe
- Click on "Orientation" tab...
- Under "Rotation" heading, change X to 15
- Change Y to -20
- Leave Z set to 0
- Click on "Box" tab
- Under "Map images to box faces" heading, change Front to front.
- Change Top to top
- Change Right to side
- Scale X =.50

- Click Preview - NOTE: preview dimensions will NOT be to scale.

There was a thin white cottony growth (fungus?) but it appeared to be eating away the cichlids skin, and it appeared the outside skin was eaten away and was down to the 'meat'. Despite its blackish color this patch was definitely fleshier in color. The fish died within a few hours. A local fish store informed the aquarist that yes a problem had arisen in the tank it came from. He gave him 200 mg Erythromycin said apply as directed (5 tabs per 24 hours 4 four treatments, w/ one water change) and that should solve any future problems. That did not work.

When he came home to apply the first round another cichlid had what appeared to be a small white spot between his upper lips and eye. About 5 days later - he pulled out the cichlid (after sterilizing the other tank) and not only has it spread towards the other eye but there is a white film growing above its eyes.

ANSWER: Erythromycin should not have been used. The disease the aquarist seems to be dealing with is Flexibacter (Flavobacterium columnare), which is gram negative, while Erythromycin treats gram positive bacterial infections. I would
have started with a blend of Nitrofurazone and Kanamycin (Chloramphenicol is
a better choice than Kanamycin if it can be found, but it is not easily
found due to problems in humans). Pimafix shows allot of promise as a natural treatment for flex bacteria. Pimafix is effective for a broad range of bacterial and fungal diseases that typically afflict fish and other aquatic animals. Fish diseases that may be treated in accordance with this product include bacterial fish diseases, such as fin and tail rot, mouth fungus (often caused by the bacterium Flavobacterium columnaris); fungal fish diseases (such as those caused by microorganisms of the genera Saprolegnia and Achyle) and the like. Many fish diseases, it should be noted, are caused by different bacterial or fungal pathogens that often exhibit similar symptoms, so identification of a specific bacterial or fungal pathogen is not usually possible from mere visual inspection of the symptoms on the fish. Since the Pimenta extract (Pimafix) treatment of this product appears to have broad-spectrum effectiveness against many diseases affecting fish and other aquatic animals, precise identification of specific bacterial or fungal pathogens causing the disease is not usually necessary.

Additional salt is helpful too. A dip
in Mebromin or methylene blue (not to be confused with malachite green)
has also helped speed cure for my fish. I have other treatments I have
used, especially to prevent reoccurrence once the fish are OK (such as "Medicated Wonder Shells", which contain Acriflavin, which is active against flex bacteria).

This is a disease where a lot of misinformation is circulated on the internet and elsewhere such as confusion with fungus or incorrect recommendation of treatment with Erythromycin or Tetracycline. Getting the correct information is essential for this disease as it con devastate an aquarium in short order. Printer Sharing - Using One Printer With Many Computers

Printer Sharing for Windows XP Printer sharing is a great tool when you have several computers but only one printer. With printer sharing, you can have your printer connected to only one computer, and allow all computers on the network (computers connected to the router) the ability to print to the printer. Not only will computers that are hardwired into the network be able to print, but also if you have a wireless router, those computers with wireless cards both desktops, and laptops can print "wirelessly" to the printer as well. Your Windows XP based computer has everything you need to do this already built in.

Step 1.

Share the Printer

You will need to get onto the computer that has the printer connected to it. On that computer, simply go to Start --> Control Panel --> Printers and Faxes.(You may have to enable classic view in order to view this icon) Here you will see a listed of installed printer imaging devices attached to your computer. If you have more than one printer attached to the computer, such as an inkjet printer and a laser printer, you will see a black circle with a white checkmark; this indicates which printer is set as the default. Right click on the printer that you want to share, then click on properties. When the new window appears, you want to click on the "Sharing" tab at the top of the window. You will notice two radio buttons, you will want to click the radio button that says "Share this printer". Once that button is pressed, the "Share name" box will automatically appear with a name that will refer to your printers shared name. I would recommend changing this to your printer brand with a space and then its model number, for example BROTHER 7820. Once your printer has been shared, and given a shared name, click apply at the bottom of the window.

Step 2.

Connect to the shared printer.

Once the printer has been shared, you can now get onto your other computer that you want to be able to print from. Now we need to install the printer on the computer that it is not connected to. On the computer that is not connected to the printer, go to Start --> Control Panel --> Printers and Faxes. In the blue pan to the left, you will see a box that the top that says Printer Tasks, and below that is Add a printer. Click on Add a printer, and this will show the Add Printer Wizard, and click next at the bottom of that screen. On the next screen, you want to select the option "A network printer or printer attached to another computer", and click next. The next screen asks, what printer do you want to connect to, and keep the option selected on Browse for a printer, and click next. Now, if you properly shared your printer in step 1, it should appear with the name that you gave it, and the printer that it is connected to. Simply select the printer, and click next. The computer will now attempt to install the drivers for your printer, if it does not have the drivers available, you will need to download them, or insert your installation cd, and point the installer were to find the printer drivers. Once the drivers have installed, you will see a screen asking if you want this new installed printer to be the default printer, it more than likely will be.

Step 3.

Test the printer

Since you have now connected to the shared printer, you should test the connection and make sure everything is installed correctly. Go again to Start --> Control Panel --> Printers and Faxes and right click on the shared printer you just installed, and click on properties. You will see a button just above the Ok and Cancel buttons, which says Print Test Page. Go ahead and click on that, and it as long as everything is setup properly, you will have a test page laying in your printers output tray.

How to Make Hardcover Photo Books From Snapfish

Snapfish.com is a well known online retailer of photo based gifts and other products and services. Despite offering a plethora of photo printed products, like calendars, traditional prints, and even drink coasters, Snapfish seems to be best well known for their exquisite photo books. Photo books are created by the user, who uploads a set of their own digital photographs from their hard drive to the Snapfish website, and uses their robust editing software to assemble them into a bound hardcover book with text, backgrounds, borders, and other fun and appealing features. Photo book prices start at a low .99 for an 8x11 hardcover photo book with a linen cover, and 20 full color pages.

Before you can start designing a photo book with Snapfish you must first register on the website. To create a photobook, navigate to that section of the website and select the size you want to go with. For hardcover options they offer 8x8, 8x11, and 12x12. There are two different options for the 8x11 available - Leather or Linen covers with a "window" (showing a portion of the image on your first page), or a printed cover or jacket. You make these selections before entering the designing software, but you can change it later if you desire.

Before you start designing your photobook, you should first select and upload all of the images you want to use in that photo book. Once all of your images are uploaded, Snapfish offers to automatically design and fill in the photobook for you. While this makes your job super simple, it may not do things exactly as you would. Images are filled in in the order they're uploaded, and page layouts are somewhat random. The design system will lay out your images in plenty of different ways. Sometimes it will put two images on a page with a text area, or one full page image with no text, or sometimes three images on one page and a page of text on the next. This is a great option for people who don't want to spend a ton of time working on the book, but takes some of the personal touch out.

If you really want to dive in and make the best photo book you can, then you're in luck - Snapfish's design system is extremely robust. If you try to insert an image that is low resolution and won't print well, you will be warned. You can also do photo adjustments from the design area, like resizing and cropping, flipping, rotating, red eye removal, color enhancement, brightness and contrast, and even color conversion (black and white, sepia, colorize).

You can also select page backgrounds and designs. You choose a "theme" before entering the designing area, but you can change every page individually if you prefer it that way. Just select the "Backgrounds" tab and drag and drop what you want onto the page. The "Layouts" tab is where you can choose how many images you want per page, if (and where) you want to place text, and the size and placement of images. There are a total of 78 different layouts to choose from, as well as "magic" layouts that allow you a much more customized layout experience. You can even add borders to your images here, but that option isn't necessarily compatible with all layouts.

The hardest part of designing photo books is keeping track of which images you have and haven't used, so that you don't end up with duplicates, or leave some out. Snapfish makes your image management easy, however, by placing green checks next to images you've used. The full list of your images (and these checks) is found on the right hand side of the design area. If you decide you want to remove an image from use, or from your list, you can do that in this area as well.

Once you've completed your photobook, you can view a 3D rendering of what it should look like by clicking "Preview" at the bottom of the design area page. This is a navigable preview that lets you view pages in order, like you would if you were looking at the real book.

How To Change The Ipod's Hard Drive - 10 Easy Steps

I recently thought my iPod's was dead. I had dropped it from a ladder while I was painting. I know, not a good idea to paint and have your iPod on you, but I like living a risky life.

Anyways, I immediately shot down and tried to put my iPod on. It turned on, but all I got was some sort of clicking sound, my hard drive was done for, I could tell, the screen would turn on.

So, I decided to share with you how I change my iPod drive. Note if you do this, your apple warranty is done for, and you may actually damage the iPod. I just don't want to be held responsible for that. Although it is easy, I am giving this for information purposes.

How to change the iPod's hard drive Step 1
A little like in the battery changing article I wrote, check out my blog from the 24th of January [http://ipod-psp.blogspot.com/2007/01/how-to-replace-ipod-battery-5-steps-to.html]. I used a very little and thin flat head screw driver to pry open the case ever so gently.

Once pried open, place the iPod's back towards you. Open the casing.
DO NOT DISCONNECT THE RIBBON WIRE

The hard drive is the thing with bumpers around it, probably blue and some foam glued to it. It is probably the first thing you will notice. You can unplug it, it shouldn't be too hard. Do not unplug the ribbon plug, just take the hardrive out of the IDE connection (directly at the base of the iPod)

Once the hard drive is out, take the bumpers off. The foam is a little harder. I used a knife to scrape it off gently. Try not ripping it or if you do keep the puzzles pieces you teared, you are going to need them later.

Note the iPod's hard disk drive's model. It's written next to hard drive on the piece of paper on your hard drive. It is most certainly a Toshiba, but you need the model. Personally, my iPod had a MK2004GAL. Order this hard drive online. You maybe able to get another hard drive in there, but you should check out the differences between models. You can most certainly find one on welovemacs.com.

Once you get the new hard drive, put the bumpers back on and glue the foam to the back before inserting it back in as it was.

Switch out your art for oceanscapes or fish motif prints. Create your own wall décor with large star fish, ceramic fish and large shells.

Create an inexpensive coffee table. Purchase two large garden urns, fill with sand, place shells in the sand and top with a piece of glass. This is a very fast and affordable answer for a very unique look.

Going on vacation to the beach is a very relaxing getaway, but vacations come to an end, so why not create that vacation feeling everyday in your own home. Our homes are the place where we should be able to find peace and solace. I invite you to create that place in your own home.
